Thomas Rid of Kings College has a book out with the provocative title: Cyber War Will Not Take Place. Most of the discussion around this book has focused on the assertion in the title, and we cover this in the last third of the podcast. Thomas stresses words matter and gives examples why whether an activity is called war or not is important.
However the Chapter 3 on Cyber Weapons and Chapters 4, 5, and 6 on Sabotage, Espionage and Subversion were much more interesting to me, and probably more applicable to the ICS community. We spend the most of the podcast discussing what is and isn’t a cyber weapon and how cyber weapons may be used in ICS and elsewhere in the future.
The book was great and will get a 4-star review for ICS readers from me later in the week. If you are interested in the cyber war / cyber weapons discussion it is a 5-star must read.
I also mentioned in the podcast an online debate between Thomas and Richard Bejtlich. You can read the debate here.
